What will be your Space Jam?

This kid made my week:

Seriously, what will be your Space Jam?

"It's like that dude Journey said "Don't stop believin'.... unless your dream is stupid... then you should get a better dream..." I think that's how it goes"

This kid made me chuckle, but his message is so simple and so right.  We are all on the same team.  Let's advance something you think is good in the world this week.  Today.  Everyday.  It doesn't have to be big.  Don't put so much pressure on yourself.  I always think back to that awesome billboard from the Big Dig in Boston: They didn't build Rome in a day.  If they had, we would have hired their contractor.  What if you just offer to help someone out at work with something?  What if you decide to volunteer for a local org?  What if you spend a boring weeknight making pb&j sandwiches to donate to a local kitchen?  What if you reach out to someone who you know is having a health problem or personal issue and just let them know you are thinking of them?

I guarantee, you'll feel better, you'll be making the world better in your own small way, and we can each make our own small contributions to make a giant wave of good will and change in the world.

By the way huge props to Rainn Wilson for featuring this guy and check out the other videos of Kid President.  I love Rainn's site and watching his Soul Pancake videos and the videos from his van.

Today I also want to feature my friends Adam and Lissy and their incredible organization:
The Cookbook Project.

Adam's the crazy white guy :)

This compassionate and adventurous couple met on Semester at Sea in college and fell in love, and now have traveled around the world (over 60 countries!) teaching kids and adults alike around nutrition, and agriculture and they promote Food Justice and the Slow Food movement to provide access to local nutritious food for ALL.   I am so proud to know these two and I feel like they are good will fun-loving angels globetrotting and helping everyone they meet.

Read more about their work and donate!

also this is just great:

I mean, really.  We have to go get our puppy now.  In other good news, a huge congratulations to our best friends Dave and Kim on the birth of their gorgeous daughter Bailey Grace!  So exciting and can't wait to meet that little bundle of love.  Uncle Sean and Auntie Em are going to spoil the crap out of her!

Guess what... Good news!

Every time we turn on one of our i-products, the boob tube or the radio we are bombarded by reminders of things going haywire around the world.  Tragedy, sadness, injustice, fears, and things that make steam come out of our ears.  Sure, maybe for some of us we're not quite as "steamy" since the last Shrub left the White House or "Modern Family" came on TV, but nevertheless things are shitty.  THAT you can count on.

I once heard that for many people, you do about 80% of things right or are trying to, and only 20% are really things you need to work on, BUT - we all focus 80% of our time and energy on the 20% that we fail at, constantly thinking we aren't good enough and not giving ourselves any credit.  I don't know about anyone else, but that rang pretty true for me.

In light of trying to accept and understand both of the above "truths", it's time to put things in perspective focus on the good.  It may not sell papers, it may not be easy, but the good and even the great, is out there.  Each of us make choices every day about what we spend our brainpower on.  I'm not a natural optimist and I'm certainly not advocating unawareness, cowardice  or protecting ourselves from what's not pretty or easy, but I think we all could use a little more positive in our days and in our heads.  This blog will be a place to address good.  The good comes with complications, complexities, and yes, very often good comes with bad, but lets try to keep that perspective in check.  Lets empower the good.

I am going to aim to provide good material or inspiration that can make anyone smile but sometimes I will inevitably post something controversial that may make me happy, but makes others angry or sad.  Please know that the point here is to get a good laugh or smile, remind yourself that things in this crazy world ARE good, or CAN BE good, and to kick up your motivation to seek out the good.  Everyone's good is different, so if this turns out not to be the right spot for you, I highly advise that you immediately leave this blog and proceed to Funny or Die's video collection of The Office cold opens or for slightly racier humor to List of best Auto-corrects of the Year.  You'll thank me later.
